Project Details & Results

 

The aim of “Compost Academy” project is to increase public awareness about the importance of composting, create small scale composting stations and engage locals in day-to-day activities that can help reduce emission of chemicals and create fertilizers with no chemicals. The overall objective is to increase public awareness about the proper organic waste management practices and create new business opportunities in composting for urban settlements. The “Compost Academy” project has three main components:

- Creating small composting workshops in 5 selected schools/educational institutions; 

- Increasing public awareness through promotional campaigns;

- Piloting organic waste composting in 10 organizations (e.g. banks, food courts, etc.) and development of proposal to be provided to the government of Armenia.

Project Results 

The project will produce the following results:

- 5 educational institutions have waste composting workshop stations;

- Up to 500 students of selected institutions have undergone special training program (direct beneficiaries), while other students bring organic waste to the station;

- Startup idea generation trainings (in partnership with ICARE Foundation) are conducted and at least 1 startup created;

- Cobranded signs are installed in selected institutions;

- 2 promotional videos are developed;

- At least 1 composting site is launched;

- At least 20t of organic waste has been collected;

- 1 “know-how” case study has been developed; 

- 10 public events have been organized for overall 10,000 people;

- 1 workbook is developed;

- Overall, 50,000 people have been reached;

- Composting bins are installed in at least 10 organizations/offices;

- Trainings are conducted in all partner organizations;

- Corresponding signs and promotional materials are provided;

- Regular pickup is organized (if needed).
